About me

Ester Vendrell Sales

For 50 years now, dance has accompanied me in my life. It has been deployed in different formats, contexts and expressions, whether as an interpreter, project manager, dance historian, researcher, teacher, and even in personal meditation practices. Dance and the body have been a vehicle to get to know the world, myself and their interrelationship with life.

I always define myself as a humanist because at the heart of my interest are human qualities, life in society and art as a means and instrument. And these three dimensions and interests also resonate in my academic and professional career.

I graduated in Contemporary Dance and Choreography from the Institut del Teatre (Barcelona) and The Place school (London, 1990). I have a Bachelor’s degree and PhD in Art History from the Universitat de Barcelona (2008) and I've done a post-graduate degree in Management and Cultural Policies (U.B., 2000). In the context of professional dance practice, I have played all the roles: performer in contemporary dance companies, teacher of contemporary dance classes, body placement and creative dance, as well as production and management of dance companies.

This experience, along with my Certificate of Proficiency in Academic Research on dance and cultural policies, gave me a clear vision of the state of dance and culture in our country. Maternity meant a paradigm shift in my life, and I decided to reorient myself towards my own projects. I did this by expanding diverse activities, whether they were more pedagogical, written, active or reflective. I was focused on developing and at the same time contributing to society from a standpoint of human qualities, art and critical reflection.

The more than twenty years of practice, study and training in Yoga and the texts of the Indian tradition led me to mysticism and my training in Spiritual Accompaniment (2016). This is the starting point from which I approach life, people and society, by continuing my projects in education and research centered on the history of body practices and dance and personal transformative practice.

On this website you can see who I am, what I do, and how we can work together to improve in this moment of time, both from an individual and a collective perspective, in both the cultural and spiritual dimensions.
